Title: "Israeli Proposals and the Future of the Conflict: Unraveling the One-State Scenarios"
In the latest edition of Qadaya Israeliya (Israeli Issues), Issue 85 delves into the multifaceted dimensions, implications, and projections of new Israeli propositions, particularly in the context of the ongoing debate over the future of Israel and the unresolved conflict. The issue unfolds against the backdrop of a prolonged state of occupation, continuous settlement activity, a blurring of the Green Line, and an increased presence of settlers in decision-making circles. The recent election of Naftali Bennett, former chair of the Settlement Council, as the head of the "change" government, alternating with Yair Lapid, further underscores the significance of the current political landscape.
Title: "The Unique Dynamics of Israeli-US Relations: Unraveling the Historical Threads"
In this insightful analysis, the author explores the enduring and strategic alliance between Israel and the United States, delving into the historical context that underpins this seemingly unique relationship. The essay begins by acknowledging the unquestionable significance and depth of Israeli-US relations, raising the fundamental question of the secret behind this enduring partnership.
Special Issue - "Neoliberalism and Populism in Israel: An Integrated Perspective"
The latest issue of Qadaya Israeliya (Israeli Affairs) delves into the intertwined dynamics of neoliberalism and populism in Israel, showcasing how these seemingly opposing forces are seamlessly integrated to shape the nation's political landscape.
At first glance, neoliberalism and populism may appear to be conflicting ideologies, with one prioritizing economic freedom and market logic, and the other rallying around the people while expressing disdain for liberal political values. Neoliberalism commodifies everything, even aspects traditionally believed to be outside the market's purview, such as health, education, public transportation, and prisons. On the other hand, populism claims to represent the true interests of the people, often asserting that liberal elites have betrayed the nation by aligning with aliens, minorities, and immigrants. Populist movements advocate for policies centered on alienation of immigrants, border closure, and increased control over economic movement.
Issue 82 of the periodical "Israeli Affairs" features an extensive dossier on the "Corona" crisis in Israel, exploring its management and revealing weaknesses in the healthcare system attributed to Netanyahu's policies. Netanyahu's approach, focusing on weakening the public sector and cutting health budgets over the years, left the healthcare system ill-prepared to handle the crisis.
The dossier extensively addresses the blatant discrimination against Palestinians within Israel during the crisis. It highlights the condescending treatment of Palestinians, neglect of their health, and disregard for their political, social, and economic needs. The crisis is exploited to achieve political, suppressive, and deterrent goals against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. The Israeli government avoids full responsibility for providing vaccines to those under its control.
This issue addresses Israeli-Arab relations, including the relations with the United Arab Emirates, the Arab Maghreb, Egypt, and Syria. The primary motive behind the issue is, of course, recently increasing normalisation and impact on the future of the question of Palestine.
This issue is released shortly after the most weird US elections and ahead of the fourth Israeli elections, to be held in two years. Though uncertain, this election is at least likely. While an outgoing US President does not admit defeat, a stranded Israeli prime minister is looking for a new victory. It seems that endeavours of normalisation with many and multiple, old and new, Arab states are nothing but stratagems in the accounts of both leaders. A necessary and careful analysis of the landscape unfolding before our own eyes must be put on hold a little while until some issues are visible and the path is clear. We will get back to this topic very soon.
