These included the investigations with the Prime Minister and police recommendations to bring him to court. For the second week in a row, Israeli social media platforms were taken up by the investigation of Benjamin Netanyahu on grounds of corruption charges.

Firstly, following investigations, the Israeli police submitted recommendations that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu be brought to court on grounds of two corruption charges.

Just before Saturday noon, Israel launched airstrikes on several locations in Syria. The Syrian army shot down an Israeli F-16 fighter jet, leaving the crew with injuries. Prior to the attack on Syria, the Israeli air force brought down a reportedly Iranian reconnaissance plane, which had crossed Israel’s airspace. This issue of the Newsletter covers the period 5-7 February 2018. Israeli social media networks were taken up by several issues. Mainly, Israeli social media activists were occupied by the operation carried out by 19-year-old Abdul Karim Assi. According to the Israeli police, Assi stabbed and killed rabbi Itamar Ben-Gal in the vicinity of the Ariel settlement. Assi holds the Israeli nationality and lives in Tel Aviv. His mother is an Israeli Jew and his father a Palestinian from Nablus. Israeli social media platforms engaged in incitement against Assi’s family in particular, and against Palestinians in Israel and the West Bank in general.
