This comprehensive anthology spans 386 pages and embarks on a chronological and geo-historical journey through the realm of Modern Hebrew Literature. Within its pages, readers will discover a rich tapestry of narratives that illuminate the complex identity and social questions confronting Jews during this transformative era. It also delves into pivotal political interactions that evolved into a "national revival" project characterized by colonial attributes. This project ultimately spurred settler migrations to Palestine and profoundly influenced the Palestinians' mere existence in their homeland.

The anthology features a curated selection of eight short stories and novels from the pioneers of modern Hebrew literature. Among these works are "The Rabbi's Daughter" by Yaakov Shabtai, "Sideways" by Uri Nissan Gnessin, "Two Camps" by Micha Josef Berdyczewski, "Behind the Fence" by Hayim Nahman Bialik, "Between Water and Water" by Yosef Haim Brenner, "And the Crooked Shall Be Made Straight" by Shmuel Yosef Agnon, and "Shifra" by Devorah Baron. Notably, it also includes the novel "Friday of the Simpleton" by Ishaq al-Shami, a unique addition given al-Shami's choice of Hebrew as the language for his novels, despite their deep connection to the Palestinian environment in terms of settings, characters, and plots.

The anthology is edited by Hanaida Ghanim, Malik Samara, and  Antoine Shalhat, with an enlightening introduction by Professor Basilious Baward. It represents the culmination of a collaborative effort involving Palestinian translators, writers, and researchers, including Alaa Hleihel, Malik Samara, Reem Ghanayem, Wissam Jubran, and Hassan Khader. Together, they have meticulously curated and translated these selections, offering readers a profound exploration of the multifaceted world of Modern Hebrew Literature during this pivotal period.
