As in every annual report, the Jewish People Policy Institute designates a section to address the issues of identity and allegiance among the world Jewry, with the exception of the Jewish Israelis. It is believed that allegiance to religion, in particular and at any level whatsoever, might be a prelude to a Jew’s willingness to migrate from their homeland to Israel. However, this willingness decreases considerably among those who merely call themselves Jews, without any connection to religious and cultural institutions in various homelands of the Jews around the world.
Avi Gabay, leader of the Labour Party and Zionist Camp coalition, said he viewed security issues as a red line, which cannot be bargained. He believed there was no Palestinian partner in the settlement negotiations. “We don’t have to be afraid of the Arabs. It is they who must fear us” Gabay affirmed.
