New Media in Israel

This issue of the Newsletter covers the period 24-27 January 2018. Israeli social media networks were mainly preoccupied with two issues: (1) Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s participation in the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos; and (2) Israel’s programme to expel around 40,000 African refugees. Announced last week, this programme forces these

refugees to choose to leave the country or be jailed for an indefinite period of time. The new plan gives African refugees a respite until March 2018 to decide either to leave Israel or to go to jail.
