A weekly newsletter monitoring key issues in the new media of Israel 18-22 July 2017

This newsletter covers the period 18-22 July 2017. Israeli online networks were preoccupied with a significant number of topics. These mainly addressed the security escalation in Jerusalem as a result of Israel’s insistence to keep metal detectors around the Al-Aqsa Mosque after an operation launched by three young men from Um al-Fahm.

While some expressed their support, other online networks opposed metal detectors, allegedly because they would undermine Israel’s security. However, online networks did not address whether metal detectors would jeopardise the status quo in Jerusalem.
