Following air engagements in Syria last Saturday, Israeli security assessments indicated that the current round of engagements ended. At the same time, however, assessments highlighted that the next round with Iran was just a matter of time.

Amos Harel, military analyst of Haaretz, asserted that Russian President Vladimir Putin intervened to end the Israeli-Iranian confrontation in Syria. Both parties accepted Putin’s decision.

According to Harel, this is the finding of the analysis of the sequence of events over the weekend. On Saturday afternoon, following the second wave of attacks launched by the air force on targets of the Syrian regime and Iranian facilities in Syria, senior officials in Israel were portending an escalation. It seemed that Israel was looking to proceed with the military operations. Debate on this issue subsequently came to an end shortly after a telephone conversation between Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
