A case instituted by detainees through the Public Committee Against Torture in srael to the Investigation Department of the Israeli Police:

This report presents detailed information on the events that took place on the night metal detectors were removed on yards of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. In addition to torture and ill-treatment, sponge bullets and stun grenades were fired at worshippers.

 

According to testimonies of the claimants and other eyewitnesses, at one point, a police force of 100 officers interrupted the evening prayers and fired stun grenades at panic-stricken worshippers. On their helmets, police officers had cameras and headlamps. They could see what was going one and that worshippers were in panic and ran away in all directions. At this point, police officers started to fire sponge bullets directly at the worshippers.

In this dark, oppressive and unjust scene, electricity was cut off and the mosque was raided. Sponge bullets and stun grenades were also fired. At the time this was taking place, some eyewitnesses felt it was like an assassination they had heard of. They tell how were afraid for their lives. Police officers assaulted worshippers with their batons, fists and feet. Meantime, they verbally abused and threatened worshippers. Verbal abuse included sexual threats.
