A weekly newsletter monitoring key issues in the new media of Israel 17-20 December 2017

New Media Weekly Bulletin

This issue covers the period 17-20 December 2017. Due to Jewish holidays, Israeli social media networks were concerned with two topics only.

1. Israeli social media networks were preoccupied with the Nationality Bill after an original draft had been approved by the Israeli government coalition. The bill will be presented to the Knesset for a first reading vote during the current Knesset winter session.

According to the Nationality Bill, Israel is the national home for the Jewish people. In this state, only the Jewish people will exercise self-determination. Arabic will be granted a special status, but will not be an official language in the state.

2. Marking the ongoing crisis of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., workers organised demonstrations and protests, which the Histadrut joined.
