A weekly newsletter monitoring key issues in the new media of Israel 16-18 August 2017

This issue covers the period 16-18 August 2017. Israeli online networks were engaged with several topics. In particular, resignation of a member of the Jewish Home Party attracted a major interaction. It was released that the Spokeswoman of the Jewish Home Party Leader and Minister of Education, Naftali Bennett, was homosexual. According to the resigning member, this was in conflict with religious teachings.

Rabbi Yisrael Rosen’s resignation aroused online networks. While some opposed, others were in favour of appointing a homosexual in the party. Bennett, the party leader, had given full support to his spokeswoman, even on social media platforms.

This week, Nitzan Chen, Director of the Israeli Government Press Office, threatened to withdraw the press accreditation card from Al Jazeera correspondent Elyas Karram.
