MK Bezalel Smotrich of the Jewish Home party proposed a bill, which provides for obliging the authorities to bury killed Palestinian combatants (“martyrs of the enemy”, as the bill put it) in a special cemetery. Their corpses may not be handed over to their families.
Prospects of the bill
The bill stands a chance in light of the racist atmosphere within the Knesset. However, according to the applicable procedure, the government stands by passively in such cases. It will leave the matter in the hands of the authorities with relevant powers, including the Prime Minister.
