Bill No. 5828/20/F

On Wednesday, 24 January 2018, the Knesset approved two bills that seek to provide a legal guarantee for the conditions set by security agencies on the funerals of Palestinian fighters who carried out operations. Both bills aim to thwart court decisions that revoke security agencies’ conditions. In practice, the bills are applicable to Palestinians in Jerusalem and the 19148 territory. In the West Bank, relevant military orders are already in place.

The bills prescribe binding conditions on the implementation of orders. Of these, martyrs’ families will pay financial guarantees to ensure commitment to these orders.

The first bill was proposed by MK Bezalel Smotrich of the Jewish Home party. The other was submitted by MK Anat Berko of the Likud party, together with 18 MKs of the coalition and opposition parties.
