The Palestinian Forum for Israeli Studies
The 2011 Strategic Report of the Palestinian Forum for Israeli Studies (MADAR) monitors major developments on the Israeli scene throughout 2010 as well as explores future developments and the course of events over the upcoming period. In addition to the Executive Summary, the Report addresses in detail developments witnessed on the Israeli scene in seven significant areas: negotiations; foreign relations; politics; security and military events; economy; social affairs; and Palestinians in Israel. As has been the case over previous years, a group of specialist researchers have supervised the compilation and editing of the MADAR 2011 Strategic Report. In their analysis, researchers have adopted an objective, forward-looking perspective of events that characterised 2010. They have also avoided a reportorial narrative of events in favour of a focus on strategic changes.
2009 witnessed a number of key events that shaped the political and diplomatic reality in Israel of which the most significant were the war on Gaza and the internal, regional and international repercussions, in addition to the forming of a new Israeli government headed by Benyamin Netanyahu and which combines neo-liberalism and neo-Zionism.
Through monitoring and analysis, MADAR Strategic Report overviews the most important events and variables that did impact the Israeli scene during 2008. The analysis focuses on six spheres: Israeli external relations sphere, political sphere, security and military sphere, economic sphere, social sphere and the Palestinians in Israel sphere, in addition to the executive summary of the report.
The 2008 MADAR Strategic Report presents an analysis of the major developments that occurred in Israeli society during the year 2007. The report examines these developments in six areas: foreign relations, domestic politics, security/military, economy, social welfare and the status of the Palestinian minority in Israel. Palestinian academics whose expertise spans this spectrum of Israeli affairs have authored the report. It is the fourth such annual strategic report to be published by the Palestinian Forum for Israeli Studies (MADAR).
MADAR’s 2007 Strategic Report summarizes the central events that transpired on the Israeli scene during 2006. The events discussed in the report left conspicuous imprints on Israel’s domestic and foreign political agendas in areas including security, economics and social development. The report concludes that the major events of 2006 left the door wide open for dramatic changes in Israel’s domestic political landscape. In turn, these changes could have an impact on resumption of substantive negotiations with the Palestinians.
