A law that gives preference to those who served in the army

(A bill aimed at legitimizing one of the major tools of discrimination against Palestinians inside the Green Line)

Initiator Anat Berko
Proposed bill 4693/20/F (New)

MK Anat Barako of the Likud party presented a bill that legitimizes giving preference and special privileges to those who serve in the army on subsequently applying for jobs. The law applies to all those serving in the military within compulsory or voluntary service frames for a minimal duration of 18 months.

Potential Implementation:
This bill is likely to include within the legislative process in light of the balance of power at the Knesset. A similar law exists within another context, which was approved by the Knesset in the 17th parliamentary term, under Ehud Olmert’s government, at the initiative of extreme right-wing deputies. Restricting the sale of ‘’Keren Kayemet’’ land to Jews was not perceived as racist according to the law.
