Bill No. 4988/20/F

MK Mickey Levy from the Opposition Party (Yesh Atid – There is a Future) along with all party MKs, proposed a bill that prevents the government from handing over a fighter’s body if the deceased belonged to a faction that is detaining an Israeli prisoner or body, unless the Mini Cabinet of Military and Political Affairs decides otherwise.

Initiators
MK Mickey Levy and all Yesh Atid MKs: Yair Lapid, Yaer German, Meir Cohen, Yaakov Perry, Ofer Shelah, Haim Jelin, Karin Alharrar, Yoel Razvozov, Aliza Lavie, and Elazar Stern.

Prospects
A number of bills were proposed by coalition and opposition throughout the winter session 2017/2018 pertinent to detaining the bodies, which increases the chances of legislation. However, this bill can limit the government’s ability to detain prisoners for negotiation purposes, hence the possibility of the government refraining from passing on the bill also stands.
